These could be roughly divided into schools, hospitals and clubs.
Not sure if this school is the one in Paradiso or Punta.
Often the line between a secular institution and one with a religious missionary purpose was deliberately left blurred, such as this group photo of the American school for girls in Smyrna taken in 1928, that clearly had a student nationality range that stretched beyond the daughters of local US citizens. - hover for close-up.
