The Turan neighbourhood though in former times was considered a beauty spot, has effectively ceased being a residential since the 1920s, and only a handful of houses now stand, most belonging to wealthy local Levantines as summer retreats.
Rolando Braggiotti owned this house for some time back and his son Raimondo Braggiotti was born here. Like others the municipality forced them to abandon this property when authorities decided the area was going to become an industrial zone in the 1940s (?). Unfortunately in June 2011 this building has lost its attic/top floor to a fire - all photos below are pre-fire views.

The former acorn processing plant operated by Valeks (?) in Alaybey, between Turan and Karşıyaka, betweeen the railway line and the sea. Today only parts of the walls stand. The sun-dried cups of Turkish oak acorns (Quercus macrolepis,) have a tannin content of 45 percent. It is used in combination with other materials for fine grades of leather.
