A recently restored property facing the sea at Alsancak (no 258), it shows classic Izmir architecture and was bought from a Greek merchant by Ataturk with his own money, just after the liberation of the city.

The modern Greek consulate (no 262) above (it is either the same location as pre-1922 or very near that location on old maps) and the frontage of these 3 buildings can be matched in old postcard views, such as the icon below on map. Below another Punta sea-front property that may have served as a consular residence. Before the fire there were a myriad of consulates on this stretch, with the nearest match to old maps being the Austrian or Sardinian missions, and work needs to be done to tie in former locations to present buildings. Bottom photo is the modern French consulate again nearby further south, however this is surrounded by high rise buildings suggesting this is within the zone of the 1922 fire.

The former French Consulate that will be restored through the sponsorship of Lucien Arkas. Restoration works will end in September 2011 and the quay side of the building will serve as art gallery/museum (the landside still functioning as the Consulate) where a part of the art collection of Lucien Arkas will be displayed.
