The former Dermond house on 1469 Street of Punta / Alsancak, formerly Bornova Sokak / Rue Bornobat. In earlier times the name of the street was Moelhasen as this family owned a lot of land along this thoroughfare. Many Levantine families used to live along here such as the families of Micaleff, Reggio and Musako all relations to each other.
According to Katherine Creon the Dermond house was one of a row of eight houses built by her grandfather Antoine Dermond circa 1905 as rental properties. However Antoine Dermond did not actually live there. His granddaughter Katherine was the first family member to inhabit the house, from approximately 1960 to 1980 (as recounted in her memoirs ‘I met a Turk’).
